Why a Blog?

When I  first started writing letters to my Grandchildren I just wrote and occasionally shared to Facebook. My plan was to possibly put my writings together into a small book to give to my grandchildren. My writing grew to become more than expected.

I began with using the writing prompts that were in a gift from my daughter. As I began writing from what was suggested I thought of other memories and stories that I wanted to share.

That led to writing some poems. The poems often begin with a picture I've taken, they ignite a thought or feeling that bring words to mind. Sometimes the thought of a poem comes first and I look for a photo to go with the feelings of the poem.

As I became more comfortable with writing and sharing I found that I had a lot to say. I questioned if my grandchildren, or anyone else, would be interested in listening or reading. But I found my writing is as much,or more, for me than for others. If I am writing into a void, with only my own eyes seeing or reading, is it still important? The answer for me is yes. It gives my life, my thoughts and my personal growth a focus. I feel a life unexamined is a life unlived.

The other reason I write, specifically for my grandchildren, is that I regret not writing or preserving what my own grandparents told to me. About family history but also their personal lives, thoughts, dreams and wishes. My goal is to write my own memories and thoughts and dreams so that my grandchildren have them. What they do with them, or if they even read or listen is up to them.
