Dance of Ghosts

 

I think all lives have ghosts

that dance

to tunes you wish to forget

bringing up 

thoughts or memories

that belong buried

in the past

I know I have ghosts

of thoughts

images

old hurts

unresolved issues

something triggers the memory

and even if you think

 you have lain

that ghost to rest

it starts to dance

sometimes a slow waltz

others a fast jitter bug

it dips and weaves

stopping to flirt

with your mind

undoing what you thought

you had rid yourself of

doubts

fears

regrets

you try to shake it away

sweep if off the dance floor

but you know

it will remain

partially hidden

until the next time

the music

and mood

causes it

to dance again
